A Disappointing End to the Quarter

(10/27/2008)

If Gunnery Sergeant Hartman were to have been in West Acres Bowl on Wednesday night, he would have held out his cupped hand and told the entire Hog Palace team to lean forward and choke themselves... because choke is exactly what they did.

Every year the Hog Palace have their sights set out on the roll offs, however, more often than not they end up near or at the bottom of the league standings. The 2008-09 season, though, started off with some steam and only got better. You only have to look as far as the first five weeks of the season when the team walked away with 18.5 points or more on every outing. Two of those weeks consisted of 24 point victories plus a 20 point win against their arch-nemesis, McLovin.

Even though the team would rack up a 17 point win in the last three weeks of the quarter, the Hog Palace saw their ranking drop to second place in the Who Cares League coming into the final week. Their arch-nemesis, McLovin, would hold a one point lead over the good guys and they would be able to hold onto the lead as the Pro Shop brought out their A-game and opened a can of whoop ass against the Hog Palace. As a result, the Hog Palace would end up in third place in the first quarter standings and 8 points behind the first place team.

Just like the baseball season, the bowling season is all about endurance as there are still three 8-week periods left to go. This year's Hog Palace squad has proven that they have what it takes to compete with the rest of the big boys and are backed by the league's second place individual point leader in Jason Graening. The team is looking forward into making the most of the rest of the remaining quarters and to once again earn a place into the roll offs.
